Showcasing Monique Lhuillier

In this blog post, we want to highlight an incredible woman who is internationally recognized as one of America’s foremost designers- Monique Lhuillier! Monique is a Filipino-American fashion designer and creative director known for her bridal brand, which we are so proud to say we carry at our store. Being a wife & a mother, Monique is confident that her career in fashion is enriched by her strong dedication to family & commitment to philanthropic efforts. She actually established her company in 1996 with her husband, which is now considered one of the leading fashion houses in design, quality, & creativity. All of her collections over the past 20 years have captured the perfect essence of luxury & femininity, but her Spring & Fall 2018 line have taken it to another level. In a recent interview, Monique said she “envisioned a girl running through a delicate garden without a care in the world—pure bliss and madly in love”, when designing this line. How amazing is that? This collection encompasses all things beauty & bridal, & we know our brides are going to fall in love with the gowns. For this reason, we are proud to announce that we will be hosting a Monique Lhuillier trunk show February 16th-18th! Call now to make an appointment with one of our talented stylists.

Our fairy godmothers

We’ve talked about our amazing bridal stylists on this blog, but we’ve yet to talk about the “fairy godmothers” of The Collection Bridal. If you guessed that we’re talking about our unbelievable seamstresses, then you guessed right. Altogether, our seamstresses have over 40 years of experience doing what they love- making brides feel beautiful. Tailoring a dress to fit any type of body shape is truly an art of craftsmanship they have mastered. Both seamstresses have a gift of being able to look at a woman in a gown and know exactly what needs to happen to have the gown showcase the bride. Did we mention that all of our gown alteration is done in house? That’s pretty special. If you are a Collection bride, you will 100% be able to meet our seamstresses who are present for every  fitting to make sure you are happy with the end result, while having fun throughout the process of having your dress fitted to you. When we asked our seamstresses why they love what they do, they told us it was because they love being creative & paying attention to detail but above all they love helping all of their brides feel beautiful. At the end of the day, they are more than seamstresses- they are dress makers & we feel so lucky to have them here at The Collection Bridal!

Engaged Around The Holidays

It’s Christmas time & you know what that means! Yes, of course- Christmas trees, lights, mistletoe, Christmas cookies, Santa Clause, holiday parties, friends & family, but you know what else? ENGAGEMENT SEASON, LADIES! From Thanksgiving all the way to New Years, it is such a popular time for your significant other to pop the question, which is why we love this time of year so much. We’re here to tell you to not to be afraid to say YES to the dress soon after getting engaged. In fact, if you think about it, this is actually an amazing time to find the perfect gown. The holidays are all about spending time & bonding with friends & family, so what’s a better way to do that than by wedding dress shopping at our salon? This time of year is so magical & so is finding your gown.

Happy Holidays from our family here at The Collection, to yours!

Trends, Trends, & More Trends!

In this blog post, we thought it would be fun to talk about some of the hottest trends in the bridal industry this season! Some things will always stay in trend, like clean lines & less being more (we’re calling this minimalism) & we love these classy looks. These style trends are perfect for our brides who never want their dress to go “out of style”. Another trend that has been popular for a long, long time & that we expect to stay popular are long trains, especially lace ones which are absolutely beautiful & photograph amazing. But, stepping outside of the traditional box is also very in right now, for example, we’re seeing a lot of colors like blushes & nudes. When it comes to trends that are a little outside of a bride’s comfort zone, keeping an open mind is something we always encourage! As for jewelry, we’re seeing a variety of new looks come about. Once again though, certain styles will always be popular like pearls & drop earrings, but brides are really starting to be more “daring” with their jewelry choices. Statement earrings, cocktail rings, rose gold, & even chokers are making an appearance this season & we are loving it! Did you know we carry jewelry here at The Collection too? Trust our stylists to know not just how to find your perfect gown, but also how to pair it with the most amazing accessories.

What Comes First the Venue or thr Dress?

Remember when Carrie Bradshaw completely changed her wedding plans because of a gown she fell in love with? That’s because guests may remember your venue for a month or two, but they’ll never forget your dress. We’ve seen brides wear a ball gown on the beach, a tight mermaid in a church (we could go on & on) but basically, what we’re trying to say, is that as a bride you should never feel like you have to compromise. Your dress will be beautiful wherever you wear it. It’s definitely important to have a vision & an idea of the “feeling” you want your wedding to have when you’re dress shopping, but you don’t need to have the venue set in stone.  In our experience we have been told over & over from our brides that it seems as if everything else falls into place once you say YES to the dress! When you were a little girl you probably didn’t dream about the catering, DJ, or even the venue for your wedding, but you probably did dream about your dress- our point exactly. Here at The Collection, we can’t wait to help you find your dream gown & then the rest of your wedding planning can begin!

Guests For Saying Yes To The Dress

Let’s be honest, as women, we throw around our opinions like confetti- whether we mean to or not. We just can’t help it! This is something to remember when thinking about who to invite to your bridal appointment. Finding your gown is a VERY special moment & you don’t want the experience to be overwhelmed by 10 different people’s opinions flying around the room. There’s a few special moments you’ll remember in your life & this is one of them, sharing this experience with the ones you hold closest to you. The people you choose to bring to your appointment should really be there to support you & your personal style. Trust your bridal stylist to be the one to give you the fashion advice you need- that’s what we’re here for!  Anyways, in our expert opinion here at The Collection, we would say two to three people (for example: mom, sister & best friend) is ideal. With all of this being said, we can assure you that when you have a bridal appointment at our store & the right people with you, finding your wedding dress will be one of the best experiences of planning your wedding!

Before you go shopping for the dress…

We wouldn’t call it “homework”, but there are definitely a couple of things you should have figured out before going dress shopping! If you haven’t thought about this yet, we’re here to help. First, you should think about your budget. No need to stress, but you should really have a ballpark idea of how much you want to spend- this is what you’ll tell your stylist doing your personal consultation & she will make sure to be respectful of it! Another thing to think about is bringing in any pictures you like. This could be pictures from magazines & Pinterest, or pictures of yourself in dresses that you’ve already tried on! Sometimes it’s hard to explain the look you’re going for, so having pictures to look at makes this a little easier. One last piece of “homework” would be putting some thought in to who you would like to bring with you. Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post that will explain exactly how to know who to bring!

What to Expect When You Walk into Our Boutique

I have to start off by saying this- here at The Collection, we are just as excited as you are for you to find your gown & we really can’t say thank you enough for choosing us to be a part of such an exciting time in your life! As soon as you walk in to our store, you can expect to be greeted by one of our fabulous stylists who are ready to give you a personal consultation. This is to get to know you & your style a little bit better, before starting the fun process of trying dresses on! Once you start trying dresses on, you can expect to feel a mixture of emotions. You may feel confused, overwhelmed, emotional- this is completely normal & will be totally worth it once you say yes to your beautiful gown. If you’re feeling overwhelmed because there are so many beautiful dresses to choose from, find comfort in the fact that your stylist knows exactly what she is doing & is here for you!  If you’re feeling confused because you think you might like a completely different look than what you thought you did, I’m here to tell you that this happens 9 times out of ten & there’s no need to worry! If you’re feeling emotional, well, no one could ever blame you for that. This is a HUGE milestone in your life & we are here for you in any way you could possibly need. Happy tears!

When Do You Order a Wedding Gown?

When shopping for a wedding gown, brides become over whelmed with the amount of questions flooding through their minds. One of the most prominent questions is, how far in advance is a bride supposed to purchase their wedding gown? There are different things to consider when deciding when is the right time for you!
First and foremost, designer gowns take four to six months to come in after they are ordered. At the time of purchase a bride is measured and placed in a size accordingly to the designer size chart. All designers size charts are different.
Secondly, alterations are ideally started about eight weeks before the wedding date and the last fitting is about a week or so before the wedding. At the Collection Bridal, we have an in house seamstress. This makes finding someone to alter the gown uber easy and convenient. Our seamstress are professionally trained and have years of experience.
Thirdly, gowns are shipped from all part of the world so giving some extra time for shipping is always taken into consideration when expecting gowns to arrive and when ordering. Ship dates can vary due to the postal service.
With that being said, an ideal time to purchase the gown is about eight to ten months out from the wedding date. This is giving the bride enough time to avoid any added rush fees and/or stress to get the gown in time for alterations and the wedding. Shopping in advance when purchasing a couture gown is always a stress free and ideal way.
Yet, there are quick engagements! For these brides options include paying a rush fee or purchasing a sample gown. The timeline may vary according to when the wedding is and how much time the bride has to complete alterations. When purchasing a sample, you are able to shop a few months before the wedding. Keeping in mind sample sizes are usually sizes 10’s and 12’s, European sizing run very small. It is always a better option to have a gown fitted to you if it’s a bigger size than too tight, so don’t fear the sample if it’s too big!
