Winter Trends We Love

Hi everyone! So December is right around the corner and we wanted to talk a little bit about some winter wedding trends that we love! As for our beautiful brides, long sleeves are stunning in winter months like December, January, and February. We also love, love, love some sparkle on the dress! Or sparkly shoes are fun, and with some beautiful jewel accessories the look will be complete! Well, with a stunning veil of course. If that’s your thing. Think glamorous! Even a cozy fur cape or coat for some pictures come out beautifully! We absolutely love capes and have some beautiful options here at The Collection.

As for some venue touches, we think candle and light backdrops are very important for winter weddings and can be absolutely stunning. Grand floral arrangements are also always stunning. As for bridesmaid dresses or mother of the bride dresses, we think jewel tones are so beautiful during the winter months. And darker colors actually show flowers better which make for beautiful pictures.

Don’t be afraid to go bold for your winter wedding! We fully support that. And as always, feel free to call or email us with any questions or to book an appointment!

We hope to see you soon.

Sample Sale!

Hi guys! So we have some very exciting news to share with you all. Starting tomorrow and going through the end of the month we will be holding a sample sale at The Collection! Basically, a sample sale at our store is a sale consisting of beautiful bridal gowns that have been marked down tremendously. You could potentially save thousands of dollars by saying “YES” to one of these dresses. Some of the gowns may have slight imperfections, not all, but some. But with the money you would be saving, it would more than likely be feasible to have some adjustments made to the dress. We will have over 100 dresses of all different silhouettes and styles for our brides to take a look at and try on. Your stylist will be there to guide you the whole time.

Try to come with a price point in mind! Also, it’s important to remember that this is first come first serve. Feel free to call and make an appointment or stop in if you get a chance. We’re looking forward to seeing you soon!

Fittings

Hi everyone!

Today we want to talk a little bit about what happens after you say “YES!” to the dress. So, here we go—alterations! We’ll start your wedding gown alterations about six to eight weeks before your big day. Usually brides have three fittings with one of our amazing seamstresses, but you could possibly have more depending on the dress or if you’re planning on doing custom changes.

Your first appointment will be your “fit check appointment” where you will try on your gown that we ordered for you months prior. You’re going to try it on in order to see how it fits, what undergarments you may need to purchase to help the gown fit as best as possible. You will also try the shoes on with the dress to see if you like how they look or if you want something a little different, maybe taller or shorter. You’re not seeing a seamstress at this appointment, this is just a time for you to assess how the gown fits your body. But this is the perfect appointment to get your mind prepared for the alteration process you’ll go through with your gown and then set up a time and day for your first fitting.

The first fitting is all about the seamstress assessing what needs to be done to the gown in order to tailor it to your body. To have this gown assessment be accurate you will need to have all of your essentials for this fitting and future fittings which include any undergarments such as spanks, long lined bras, strapless bras, and shoes. We have our own selection of cups and long lined bras if you are interested, and you probably went over the bra situation during your prior fit check appointment.

The next piece of advice we want to give our brides is very important. We know that most brides are in a workout frenzy mode before their wedding, and while we support you in your journey, your body needs to be where it is going to stay at your first fitting appointment. This is important because the seamstress is assessing and pinning your gown to your body. She is pinning it to have it fit the way your body is at that point in time. When your body changes this will interrupt the way the gown was pinned and fits.

After assessing what needs to be adjusted to your gown, your seamstress will then start to pin your gown which will roughly include the bust, hem, and bustle. This is why having your shoes during this appointment is imperative. The hem is how the gown falls when you walk and dance, so if you do not have your shoes it is very hard to assess how much we need to adjust the hem for you. The undergarments will determine how your bust, waist and hips are fitting in your gown as well. Undergarments are life!

**Custom Changes- We may or may not start that during this fitting depending on what needs to be done**

The second fitting is the fitting where you see your gown start to come to life. Everything is hand basted. This is the time to make small tweaks to the gown to have it to your liking. You will also go over your bustle at this time or start on your bustle. As stated before all brides are different and are case by case, so some brides will address different stages of adjustments to their gown at different fittings. This is the fitting for you to speak now or forever hold your peace! Lol. It’s not that black and white, but kind of. You really want the seamstress (unless you are working on a custom change) to be able to adjust or make any changes at this time. You want her to be able to really know everything that needs to be completed on your gown for your next fitting.

Bring a friend or family member to learn and record your bustle!

Attention: If your body dramatically changes from your first to second fitting it is like we have to start the alterations process all over again. We have to re-pin and re-assess what needs to be done which will make the alterations process take longer and may make you have to have more appointments than originally planned. Depending on how much work has to be re-done you may have to be even more flexible with your schedule in order for the seamstress to complete the work. Remember she assessed and planned out how much time it was going to take and how much needed to be done at the first fitting. We’re not trying to sound harsh, once again we completely support you working out and getting your body to where you want it to be! But it’s best to try and be where you want to be on your wedding day at your first fitting. This will make life easier and less stressful for you as well, trust us.

**Custom changes will be started at this time if they weren’t at the first fitting**

Your third fitting will usually be your final fitting unless you’re making a custom change or changes and your seamstress has told you that you will have more than three appointments. All fabric has been cut and sewn. This is final and usually can’t be changed or adjusted at this time. (Sorry to sound harsh) But, this is why the second fitting is so important to talk about your concerns. We also want to state again that depending on the case by case, the third fitting is not always the final one, yet you will know at your second fitting what to expect on your third, meaning you will know if you are picking up your gown or if you need a fourth fitting.

If you are not picking up your gown, that will be discussed prior to this appointment, then you will set up a time to have your gown picked up after we have pressed or steamed it for your big day.

Usually your last fitting is near the time of your wedding. Please do not panic if your final fitting and pick up is the week of your wedding. It is absolutely normal for this to occur.

We also want to say, out of state and out of the country brides have different protocol and please ask your stylist for more information.

We hope this helps you get a little idea of what to expect when you come in for your fittings here at The Collection. If you ever have any questions during any part of the process feel free to ask one of our consultants or seamstresses! They’re here for you.

As always, thanks for reading!

Behind The Scenes

When a lot of brides picture themselves going dress shopping, they picture standing on a pedestal with their friends and family around them ooh-ing and aah-ing. Here at The Collection, we assure you we will try our best to make this vision come true. But, what we want to talk about in this blog post is a little bit about what happens behind the scenes while you are dress shopping.

This is such an exciting experience, one that most brides dream of since they were a little girl. But we want to remind our brides that excitement may not be the only emotion you feel while dress shopping. You may feel a little nervous, or even overwhelmed, and this is why your consultant will stay with you the entire time. She’ll guide you through all of the beautiful dresses (because yes, there are a lot of them) and she’ll help you handle all of the opinions that might be thrown your way by friends and family. But the most important thing we can tell you is that while it’s so normal to feel an array of emotions, it’s so important to be transparent with your consultant. We want to be there for you as best as we can!

When I say that the consultant will be with you the entire time, I mean the ENTIRE time. She’ll help you in & out of the dresses, while staying in the fitting room with you throughout the appointment. There is absolutely no reason to feel uncomfortable or embarrassed! We are all women here and this is our job. That fitting room is an absolute no judgement zone, & we’ll make sure you feel that way.

It’s also important to note that all of the dresses you will try on will be sample size. We have so many dresses here at The Collection, so there would just be no way to carry each dress in different sizes. Please don’t be discouraged if a dress is too big or too small. We will make it work! Then of course when you decide on your perfect gown, we’ll order it in your closest size & then our alterations team will take over from there.

Overall, behind the scenes and on the pedestal in front of your friends & family, your consultant will make sure that dress shopping here at The Collection is an amazing experience for you. We hope to see you soon!

Thanks for reading.

Inbal Dror “Pure” Collection Trunk Show

Let’s talk trunk shows! So, the weekend of October 19th we are so excited to hold an Inbal Dror trunk show. You can learn a little bit more about this amazing designer on our website under “Designers”. She’s one of the leading designers in the bridal gown industry and we would love for you to check the post out! Here is the link: http://thecollectionbridal.com/bridal-designers/inbal-dror/ .

This will be our first trunk show for Inbal Dror’s new “Pure” collection and we will have all of the gowns from it. This collection is absolutely stunning, unique, and will definitely leave a lasting impression on all of your wedding guests. We are so excited to introduce it to all of our beautiful brides here at The Collection.

So, a little bit more about what a trunk show actually is. This is when a designer will send in some new gowns from one of their collections for our brides to try on. During the weekend of a trunk show we are able to offer a special incentive, which we absolutely love to do! A trunk show is an opportunity for our brides to try on and order gowns that aren’t usually in our store, giving them a wider variety of dresses from that designer. Woohoo!

We would love to see you the weekend of the Inbal Dror trunk show, as we are really looking forward to it and we know you’ll love her new “Pure” collection! Call or email to book an appointment and one of our stylist will be excitedly waiting here for you. As always, thank you for reading. See you soon!

What To Expect When Coming In For An Appointment At The Collection Bridal

Here at The Collection we know that coming in for a bridal appointment can be very exciting, but it can also be a little nerve-wracking, especially if it’s your first time trying on wedding gowns for your big day. So, we thought it might be helpful to make a quick blog post about what to expect when you come to us for an appointment.

First, one of our awesome consultants will sit down with you and ask you some questions. These questions will range from when your wedding date is, how many bridesmaids you have, what your fiancé is like, what you’re looking for in a dress, budget and things along those lines. This isn’t an interview, we just want to get to know you better!

Now for the fun part, walking around our store & picking out dresses that you want to try on! We encourage listening to your consultant and maybe even stepping out of your comfort zone a little & trying something on that you usually wouldn’t, because a lot of wedding gowns look much better on than they do on the hanger. Keep this in mind!

Once you’ve picked out some beautiful dresses, it’s time to go in the fitting room and try them on. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t like some of the ones you put on, you don’t even have to show whoever you brought with you if you don’t want to, but we promise that you will try some on that look absolutely stunning on you! It’s also important to be honest & open with your consultant about what you like & don’t like, I promise you won’t hurt their feelings at all! I mean, come on, they didn’t design these dresses.

Another thing is you should expect to show the people you brought at least a couple of dresses that you try on, & also expect for everyone to have a different opinion. Remember, that’s what you brought them with you for, so don’t get discouraged if they don’t like something that you do. But, I’m sure that they will love whatever you love, because they love you.

Lastly, if you find “the one” be prepared for us to be over the moon excited for you! We can pop champagne, we can take pictures, we can do anything you want because this is your moment! Cheers!

“The history of Maria Elena Headpieces is not just the story of a business, but the story of a family. Over a decade ago, Maria Elena created her very first headpiece as a mother’s gift to her daughter Marile to wear on her wedding day. This headpiece was not just an accessory, but was and is a precious family heirloom that will be passed down through the generations of their family.

Today, Maria Elena and Marile wish to share this gift with brides everywhere to sell you headpieces that were created with the same love and commitment that Maria Elena had when she created Marile’s bridal headpiece.”

We are so proud to carry Maria Elena headpieces & accessories, including earrings, necklaces, purses & more, at The Collection. Come in soon to have a private accessory styling! Our stylists are waiting for you.

Let’s talk Bridesmaids!

In this blog post we want to talk bridesmaids! Obviously we know how important they are, I mean come on, they stand right next to the bride on one of the most important days of her life! So what should they wear? When should they order their gowns? We’re here for all of your questions. We think bridesmaids should be in a beautiful gown that makes them feel their best, whether it be short or long, off the shoulder or strapless, fitted or loose, & so on (maybe even a mix!). It’s actually in trend right now for bridesmaids not to match each other 100%. This could mean they all wear the same color but different styles of gowns, or they all wear different shades of a color, for example. Every bridesmaid dress could be different, or just the maid of honors could be. This is super unique & makes for great pictures. Although we’re totally cool with the traditional route of all matching too, we encourage getting creative with your gown choices! Also, since we’re coming up on Summer it’s the perfect time to pick a fun color scheme. We’re loving jewel tones & pastels for this season. But whichever the bride & her bridesmaid chooses, the dresses should be ordered approximately six months out from the wedding. This gives time for the girls to pay, for the dresses to arrive & for alterations. It’s obviously the bride’s big day, but we think letting the bridesmaids help decide what they wear is super nice & helps them to feel involved. After all, they’re probably just as excited for the wedding as the bride!

Thanks for reading everyone.

Shutting Down Wedding Dress Rumors

When a bride tells someone that they’re going wedding dress shopping, they usually get a response at a mile a minute (because the other person is so excited for the bride!). But, not everything that everyone says about wedding dress shopping is true. On the blog today we want to shut down some wedding dress “rumors”.

First thing first, it’s definitely okay to come in with a price point range. But, with that being said, it is very difficult to put an exact price tag on what you will be wearing for one of the biggest days of your life! So try to come in with just an idea instead, if possible. It’s not every day you wear a gown, so quality is always something that should be at the forefront of your mind!

Next rumor we want to talk about is that your wedding dress should be white. The truth is, most designers aren’t designing in white anymore! Silk white or ivory are the colors of most of our sample gowns & honestly, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference unless you held a piece of printer paper up to the dress. Also blush, champagne & even earth tones (like nude & almond) are VERY in right now!

Another thing that is extremely important we discuss is sizing. So, wedding dress sizes are not the same as regular dress sizes because couture sizing runs much, much smaller. If you wear a four in street clothes, don’t freak out if the wedding dress size that fits you best is an six to eight. It’s also important to remember that each designer has their own size chart. With that being said, these dresses aren’t meant to fit perfect at first, they will need to be altered to fit your body! Lucky for our brides, our seamstresses are in house & are amazing at what they do.

We hope shutting down a few wedding dress rumors will be helpful to our beautiful brides & of course, if anyone reading has a question that we didn’t answer in this post, feel free to call or email! Thanks for visiting our blog, everyone!
